The Chilipepper is the perfect home automation
project. Utilizing X-10 home automation products, it is a simple task to
automate your homes hot water system.
To activate the Chilipepper hot water appliance requires a momentary contact closure.
By connecting the Chilipepper control cable to an X10 UM506 remote receiver you can control the delivery of hot water to your bathroom or kitchen fixtures with your home automation system.
Place a remote transmitter such as the MC-460 next to your alarm clock. When you shut off your alarm in the morning touch the MC-460 and have hot water waiting for your shower by the time you get to the bathroom.
Or program your home automation system to activate the Chilipepper at a pre-set time. Either way stop running water down the drain while you wait for your hot water.
X-10 is a system for remotely controlling lights, appliances, and home security systems through your existing electrical wiring.
You simply plug a controller into any 110V outlet, and plug in one of X-10's many modules into any other outlet and presto! Instant remote control.
There are also units that replace your existing 110V outlets and switches. These must be wired in and look just like ordinary outlets and switches.
Program your appliances, lights, and other appliances with your home computer.
Use an x-10 timer module to activate your appliances at a pre-determined time.

The
MC-460 is the push button transmitter for remotely turning on the
Chilipepper. This controller will control up to four individual modules,
as well as providing dimming for any lamps or light fixtures
(incandescent) being controlled, and it has a button that will turn on all
of the lamps or lights at once (and turn them all off as well) (It's hard
to tell from the picture but this thing is about the size of a
wallet!)

The
UM506 module features a set of contacts for controlling low voltage
circuits. The Chilipepper appliance is connected to the module as
though the module were a button. The Chilipepper can be
controlled by the UM506 alone or wired in parallel with one or more
buttons as desired. The switch contacts are rated for 5 amps at 24
volts. The UM506 can be set for either continuous or momentary
operation, and has an internal beeper. It has user selectable settings for
beeper only, relay contacts only, or both.
